Visitor registration is now open for Open Doors Week
18-23 March 2019
The week aims to inspire people to consider careers in the construction industry by letting the public see inside sites, factories and offices across the country.
Open Doors, which is led by Build UK in partnership with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and supported by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), Reference Point and media partner Construction News, aims to inspire people to consider and explore a dynamic and exciting career in the construction industry.
A huge variety of sites will be opening their doors during the week to encourage the next generation and those looking for a new career, to consider construction as their career of choice. The industry has a rich mix of opportunities on offer, spanning hundreds of different professions with tens of thousands of apprenticeship places available. It’s not just traditional building skills that are in demand. Every company requires a back-office support network, front-of-house sales teams and cutting-edge technical roles, offering huge flexibility. As a result, everyone, whatever they are good at, can have both a job and a career for life.
Sites will continue to be added daily until the end of February, so keep checking the Open Doors website https://opendoors.construction/contactinterest for up-to-date site locations and new ones in your area that are opening!
Build UK Chief Executive Suzannah Nichol MBE said: “Bookings are now open for Open Doors 2019, which offers a fantastic opportunity to have a closer look at not only some of Great Britain’s most exciting construction projects, but also a chance to hear first-hand about what is on offer if you follow the path into construction. I can say first-hand that you certainly won’t regret choosing a career in the industry!”
Janette Welton-Pai, Partnerships Manager at CITB said: “Open Doors gives visitors access to a huge variety of construction sites around the country, where they can see for themselves the many careers available in our sector. CITB is proud to be a partner in this excellent initiative and I encourage people from all ages and backgrounds to sign up and see just what construction has to offer.”
Beric Davis, Managing Director at Reference Point comments: “We are pleased to offer our continued support as Build UK’s Technology Partner. This is our third consecutive year supporting the Open Doors initiative and it’s really encouraging to see such a growing interest, demonstrated by visitor registrations increasing year on year.”
