  • Read and check physical smartcards using iOS devices
  • Online card checker functionality now available

Reference Point is delighted to announce the latest software release to its industry-leading Go Smart App. As a direct result of Apple’s OS 13 update, Go Smart now utilises the device’s NFC capabilities, to enable the reading and checking of physical smartcards using iOS devices.

Go Smart is the construction industry app for reading and checking physical and virtual CSCS smartcards and compatible partner cards. Go Smart has cross-platform capability and is available on iOS, Android and Windows PC. The latest release of Go Smart also includes enhanced functionality and new user interface designs for both iOS and Android.

The release is aligned with a refresh of the Go Smart website (www.gosmart.co.uk) that now includes ‘How To’ videos to assist users in getting started. In addition, a new online card checker feature has been added and is accessed via the website. The online card checking function provides a quick and easy way to check if a card is valid without having the card to hand.

Go Smart enables card checkers to identify ‘fake’ and expired cards combined with the ability to:

  • Check for updates since a card was issued or last read
  • Verify that cards are valid
  • Ensure that cardholders have the required training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out
  • Keep a record of cards that have been checked, with the time and GPS location, where available
  • View and export records of card reads for auditing purposes

Beric Davis, Chief Executive at Reference Point commented: “Reference Point is committed to delivering continuous improvement to Go Smart. Reading and checking cards electronically is not only an effective and secure way of ensuring a card is genuine but also confirms a cardholder’s identity and credentials with absolute confidence.”

Go Smart, developed for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) by Reference Point, actively encourages the use of smartcards within the industry as a way to carry out a thorough card check to ensure that construction workers are who they say they are and have the correct qualifications for the job they do. Reading and checking smartcards with Go Smart is key to the drive towards improving standards, safety and productivity on all construction sites.
