New future of competency management for the Australian rail industry

Reference Point, the UK’s market-leading competency management technology provider, are the lead software solutions technology partner supporting the delivery of The Rail Industry Worker (RIW) program on behalf of the Australasian Railway Association (ARA), which launches 28 June 2019.

The solution, based on Reference Point’s proven market-leading SkillGuard technology, provides a single, central source of information that securely stores, records and surfaces all relevant worker information and is designed to uniquely identify and verify the credentials held on a worker’s smartcard. This includes: skills, qualifications, job roles and a wide range of additional information. This in turn confirms a worker’s ability to safely perform specific tasks and roles on the national rail infrastructure, assuring full authority to work at all times.

The solution also provides virtual smartcards that work alongside the physical smartcard to ensure maximum flexibility and resilience and also enables individual workers to access and help maintain their own record through MyRIW.

Tanya Morris, Business Development Director, Reference Point Limited said: “We are pleased to be so actively involved in the transition to the new RIW program. Its enhanced functionality has been planned and designed to underpin the goal of protecting and ensuring safety on the nation’s rail network. Our team are working very closely with all the partners involved in the program to ensure a successful implementation and go live that will deliver demonstrable benefits to the whole industry.”
